Been busy!

I received the most wonderful gift from my friend Ana in Switzerland, who is not only a regular viewer of my Scrapbooking at Monica's Place YouTube show, she hosts her own scrapbook show as well! She sent me this wonderful stationary box so I just HAD to make three of them for gifts. Although it was time consuming, it was very easy and I'm really pleased with how they turned out.
Each monogrammed stationary box has 4 large cards, 4 3x3 cards, 5 tags, a post it note pad and a place for postage stamps and a pen.I hope they like them! Go here to see the tutorial on how to make them.

Sister time is a Cookie Walk!

My sister asked me what I wanted for my birthday, which was in November, and I said I would just like to spend some quality time with her. She researched and made plans for us to go on a cookie walk at the United Church in Sherwood Park.
It was really fun. You paid for whatever sized box you wanted and then filled it with selections from hundreds of dozens of cookies and squares. It was a very snowy Saturday morning but we had a wonderful time. After our cookie walk we managed to get in some great Christmas shopping too!
I gave some of the cookies away and the rest we've been sampling on everyday. What a treat!!
I'll be sure to return next year!

A Little Christmas Magic!

My 2 year old grandson was singing while he was looking at my window lights and was not aware of the camera until half way through. Too sweet!

The earth has shifted.......

It is an amazing moment in history whether you like politics or not....the world just made a big shift.....and it's amazing.
For me as a Democrat abroad, I felt so privileged to be able to vote in this election. This is something we take so much for granted...
I spent the evening at a local pub with all of the other Americans abroad from our area and I even was featured on the news and in the paper which was kind of cool!
I can't stop smiling either. Not only because Obama is a black man, but because he is a great man and finally a man was judged on the content of his character not by the color of his skin. Martin Luther King can finally rest in peace.

80 in 08!!!

So sorry that I haven't posted in awhile but I've been busy with my mom's 80th birthday bash. EVERYTHING was orange ( her fave color) and everyone dressed with a touch of orange.
The best part was all of the friends and family that came from as far as New York and Arizona!
We had a program which consisted of my cousins doing an African dance honoring the matriarch which all of the women joined in, a poem reading from all of the granddaughters, a stand up comedy routine from my niece from New York who is hilarious, and ending with my mom's first dance with all of her grandsons, great grandsons, her brother and son in laws.
My immediate family was all present which was really touching for my mom because a couple of my brothers have been MIA for a few years so we manage to snap a few family pics before they disappeared agin in to the sunset The first pic is of our immediate family and all 7 siblings(I'm 3rd from the right).

Just like the old days!

I puled an all nighter with my dear friend Teresa and we created these Bo Bunny Family Albums.(mine is on the left) It was so-o-o much fun. We laughed, sang, and got caught up on the latest 'news' and before we knew it ,it was 6:00 AM!!!!
The close up is the one that Teresa made!...pretty awesome for a first time scrapper!
Take a look at how my scrap room looked before I cleaned it up this afternoon!!

Neckties for the little Men

I made some orange neckties(see pic) for the little men to wear to Grandma's birthday party. They are the exact style of the one worn here. They are reversible with faded denim on the reverse so all they have to wear is jeans and a shirt.I just think they are so cute!!!

I love Fall!

It's been awhile since I blogged but things are crazy busy around here as we plan for my mom's 80th birthday and with that extra busyness comes increased pain in my spine, but this too shall pass.
We had a great weekend, first at a wedding where our oldest grandson was a ring bearer for the second time and the next day was a family portrait at the inlaws. Although it was hectic, the weather was amazing and it's always great to be surrounded by family and friends!!!

ahhh!...harvest Time:)

Fall is probably my most favorite season of the year and that is partly due to the fact the the cool air seems to contrast so wonderfully with the amazing kitchen aromas that permeate through the air.We cleaned out our community garden plot for another year so I cooked some swiss chard and wonderful beans with our harvest... and although this season makes for more work ( I still have carrots, beets and apples to do) it is so worth it knowing that the wholesome foods that we will ingest only required sunshine, rain, dirt and a little tender loving care.
Nana's Easy Bean Stew
This is cooked in a slow cooker and to quote my husband"what can anyone make that tastes any better than that!! Delicious!!!"
2 cups dry navy beans
1 jar of prepared spaghetti sauce (I know!!!)
2 ham hocks
2-3 bay leaves
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp parsley
Dump these items into the crock pot and cover with water. Place on high a cook for a couple of hours. Add the following:
3 carrots - cut up
2 potatoes -cubed
1 large sliced onion
garlic clove
Cook until the beans are soft and the meat falls off the bone.
Delicious!!!!!

'Mavis' Folk Art Painting

I have just started folk art painting and this is my first creation called Mavis. It's a mixed media piece on birch wood. I burned the image and then used printed paper, paint, stamps and pastels to complete. I am taking Les Petites Dolls online workshop with Suzi Blu and the classes are fantastic!

Creative Art Journal #52

Can you believe it! This is the LAST one. What an amazing, creative journey around the sun we've all had and thank you all for joining me!
The final prompt is art is....
Art is you...It is me...and expressing it is as necessary as the air we breathe.
Believe it!...I finally do. Express yourself, always in all ways.
A big huge thank you to Emily Falconbridge for your amazing inspiration.

Creative Art Journal #51

This week's prompt is it reminds me of you.
Whenever I see the color orange it reminds me of my mother. I can't believe that she is going to be 80 years young in a month!
She is truly a wonderful woman and a true legend and has taught us all how to enjoy life to the fullest.

Creative Art Journal Week #50

The prompt this week is the best gift you have ever received or given.
The best gift that I've ever received and given is unconditional love.

Creative Art Journal Week #49

The prompt is time flies.
Time truly does fly and sometimes it can be a thief taking our loved ones away while at other times, it brings us undescribable joy!
Right now though, all is good!

Creative Art Journal Week #48

For this week the prompt is ideas good ones, bad ones where do you get yours from? etc.
My ideas come from everywhere!! Online, magazines, fellow artists, just from life itself. They just keep coming and it's great!!

Creative Art Journal Week #47

This week's prompt is my happy place. This year I found my happy place to be most definitely the water. I was so fortunate to have been given the opportunity to dip my toes in three different oceans in less than six months!!! The Atlantic, Carribean and the Pacific.

Creative Art Journal Week #45

This week's prompt is self realization.
I heard somewhere that a person only cries when they feel safe enough to do so. For so long I've never been comfortable showing my feelings, but lately I've found my tears again and that's wonderful!

SOSL Week #6 Challenge

***UPDATE!!!
I was picked as Guest Judge Kolette Hall's favorite in this week's challenge!
Woo hoo! Go here to see what she had to say!!!
For our final week of the Summer of Scraplovin’, we want to go out with a bang! This week is time for you to strut your stuff, for you to shine! The challenge is to create an altered item that the main subject is YOU! This can be a mini-book (2 pages minimum plus front cover), a framed project, a canvas piece, or any other altered creation. We want to see your passion in this project. Give others the chance to know you – whether it be your attitude, your spunk, your traits, anything really that just a nice little view into what makes YOU! We want to be able to see depth and creativity as well as originality in your creation! While a photo of yourself is not required, we would like to see one.
For this challenge I chose to make a mini book called Me,myself and I. I asked my family members to come up with a word for every letter in my name that best
defines who I am.
I used Maya Road Chipboard album and
all of the stuff I love.(Click on the pics to see them closer)

The journaling reads:
M is for Mighty
I have been on death's door twice and I live a new normal life with chronic pain - yet still I rise!- and I am happy. Mighty me!!

O is for Organized
I cannot rest or relax amidst clutter so I've had to train my right brained self to become more organized!

N is for Nurturing
I love to take care of my pregnant clients, my friends and my family but more importantly, I'm learning to love to care for myself.

I is for Idealistic
For me there is no dream that cannot be realized if you just believe.

C is for Creative
I love the arts whether it be singing, acting, cooking, sewing, knitting, writing or scrapping! I wish I could do it all everyday!!!

A is for Authentic
I've always tried to live an authentic life and I've always been a free spirit , I'm anxious to see who I'm going to be and what I still have to learn. We are all unfinished masterpieces!

SOSL Challenge #5

This week's challenge is entitled
It's all about the Polka dots AND Pictures Inspiration!!
This week they wanted to see polka dots on your layout. It can be patterned paper, your own hand made polka dotted background paper using paint, just go with the dots and use your imagination!! They would like to see you use the picture above for some inspiration on your layout...

This is yet another page in the alphabet book for my grandson where the mayor's son was brave enough to have a 22 month old as his ringbearer. He did an amazing job too!!
My inspiration was the green and pink in the picture which I picked up in the pp from Turner's tie and from the pink roses in the picture. I used Pebbles Inc. I Kandee dots for dimension. The journaling reads: Turner was so proud to wear his new black "toat".

Camping- {revisted}

We went on a wonderful 4 day camping trip back to our favorite spot, Wabamun Lake Provincial Park. This used to be our favorite family spot but we hadn't been camping for about 15 years because of my back problems but with our new deluxe B.Y.O. air bed it was so wonderfully comfy and we had a great time!!
We walked along the lake, talked, rested, and recharged.
We even found time to make some art journals from an old phone book!

SOSL Challenge #4

For this challenge you will need the BACK SIDE of a picture frame. You know the wood or cardboard backing that has the stand part so your picture frame will stand by itself? That is what we will be using. Doesn't matter what color it is because we will be covering the front and using it as your "canvas"! Don't worry, if you don't have a spare back side of a frame, you are allowed to use a 8x10 piece of chipboard, wood, corrugated cardboard, or whatever you can come up with that is sturdy and will essentially stand by itself!
NO CARDSTOCK ALLOWED FOR THE BACKGROUND!!
Here are 2 pics of my dd and dil at their respective Mother Blessing ceremonies that I facilitated. I made this for my doula office.
For the background, I layered recycled phone book pages and painted them because my frame cardboard was really flimsy!
I used stickers as a mask and then peeled them away to reveal the title. For the journaling I used a stick fountain pen and India ink.
The journaling reads:
Trust Birth
Let go of fear.
Be present, Sing, Moan, Dance.
Feel deeply

Coconut Lime Muffins with *Raspberry Filling

I had some leftover limes from mojitos so I was blog hopping looking for a recipe for Lime Muffins and I came across this one at Two Fat Als. They are so yummy and delicious!! Problem is I then had to find a use for the leftover coconut milk so I made some coconut rice. And then I thought...hmmm Curry Chicken would go so well with this!...so although I am still in my pyjamas and it's 4:00 pm, I have a plethera of great food to eat so come on over and join us for dinner...I promise to get dressed!
(*Although this recipe calls for Raspberry jam I used some Rhubarb and Strawberry jam I had on hand and they were still delicious!)

{rEcyLed} Gratitude Journal

This is my most favorite thing right now! I was inspired by Candy to make this. For the cover I used cardstock and covered it with a favorite card I had that was stuffed in a drawer and I added a stiched emblished heart and covered it with modpdge. The inside pages are just paper 'stuff' I had that I didn't want to throw out!!
Check out how to create this Consciously Thankful journal of your own. I love mine!!

Heritage Days 2008

We just returned from the Heritage Days festival in Edmonton at Hawrelak Park with my daughter and her family. I am so thankful that the weather held out and it turned out to be a really pleasant afternoon after all. We sampled foods and listened to music from all over the world! My husband treated himself to a 'mango on a stick' glazed with a lemony sugar and cinnamon glaze. He loved it. (I'm not a big mango fan.) I always find a special treasure and this year I purchased some sandals from the Kenyan pavilion and some fantastic smelling incense from India. It's like a three hour trip around the world. I love my finds!!

SOSL Challenge #3

The challenge for this week comes in two parts:

1) Your layout must be created primarily with transparencies - either as a background or a large transparency overlay. And we really don't want to see just a teeny transparency on the page either.

2) The title of your layout has to be a song title/lyrics. And we want to see journaling. Please make sure to type out your journaling when uploading your layout.

I chose the song"My Precious One" by Celine Dion. This is a pic of me and my newest grandson and he is definitely precious! This is the first transparency I've ever done. For this I stamped the background also used another transparency to create a library pocket and used Basic Grey to create a tag. I inked around the photo and tag with Shabby Shutters distress ink. I stamped butterflies twice and layered them on top of each other to create a 3D effect.
The journaling is an excerpt from the song that goes:
"And in your dreams
You'll ride on angels' wings
Dance with the stars
And touch the face of God,
And if you should awake...
My precious one, my tiny one
I'll kiss your little cheek
And underneath the smiling moon
I'll sing you back to sleep"
